The Financial Empowerment Program develops essential financial skills to help families break the cycle of poverty and achieve long-term financial independence.
According to the Standard & Poor's Global Financial Literacy Survey, 43% of adults in the U.S. are financially illiterate. The same report estimates that only 4% of children from low-income families will break the cycle of poverty and enter the upper-middle class.
Further, according to a study by Lusardi and Mitchell (2023), marginalized communities often have limited access to financial education programs due to lack of awareness, geographic barriers, and limited resources for outreach. This hinders their ability to improve their financial literacy.
The Financial Empowerment Program provides in-person and virtual learning opportunities that are beneficial for everyone—from the financially secure to the financially distressed. These culturally relevant sessions teach participants how to make informed financial decisions while safeguarding their consumer rights and avoiding predatory lenders.
We presently serve approximately 2,500 individuals and 700 families annually through our financial literacy and educational programs. An added benefit is that we provide one-on-one financial coaching to 75 individuals and couples each year.
